About
Biography
When I was a medical student, I saw how good mental health care could establish a positive new path for a child who suffers and is disabled due to mental illness. Good care allows an individual and family to reclaim a positive life that can be fulfilling and happy.
As a child and adolescent psychiatrist, I treat children who have severe mental health disorders. I also specialize in school-based mental health and mental health care systems. My work mainly focuses on the development of a comprehensive system of behavioral healthcare to address the illness and suffering of young people and families struggling with mental illness.
In my practice, I work with individuals and families to understand the challenges they face and determine their best course for recovery. I believe that we have to meet patients and families where they are and engage them in the healing process. Mental health care is a long-term commitment that helps a young person and family overcome obstacles to grow and develop.
I have been recognized as an outstanding mentor by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and as an exceptional psychiatrist by the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI). These acknowledgments are meaningful as they recognize my commitment to teaching and fostering the next generation of caregivers and my excellent care for families.
In my research, my role has been to facilitate studies in child and adolescent mental health that include areas of aggression, mood disorders and suicide.
When I’m not at work, spending time in the outdoors is my favorite pastime. Backpacking through a mountain pass, canoeing a northern lake or diving in the ocean is an ideal vacation.
