Research
Each student in the Genetic Counseling Graduate Program conducts a rigorous master's thesis research project. Students have the opportunity to choose from research projects presented by genetic counselors and other faculty or to create their own project. In either case, students work closely with a professor or mentor to refine the research project, collect data, analyze data and write up results. Students also have the opportunity to present their findings to faculty, researchers, and clinicians at Cincinnati Children’s and UC. They are encouraged to delve deep into their topic and to publish their results.
Students have had their manuscripts published in many journals, including the Journal of Genetic Counseling, the American Journal of Medical Genetics, Genetics in Medicine, Pulmonary Circulation, the Journal of Pediatrics and Health Communication.
UC provides an excellent environment for faculty and students to create innovative scholarship and groundbreaking research. The university is in the top 2 percent of the nation's universities for funding and No. 1 in Ohio for research funding on a per-student basis.
