The overall goal of Dr. Bucuvalas’ research and clinical work is to ensure the best possible outcomes as defined by patient experience and value for pediatric liver transplant recipients. We conduct research in pursuit of new discoveries and improvements to the health care delivery system to make it possible to provide the best possible care. Liver transplantation is a life-saving intervention for children and adolescents with irreversible end stage liver disease, and studies conducted in the lab are directly related to gaps in knowledge for best outcomes for liver transplant recipients.

Dr. Bucuvalas has an extensive background in transplant hepatology, and has published broadly on outcomes following liver transplantation. His significant experience in quality improvement efforts informs his role as the director of the Integrated Solid Organ Transplant Program. His strong ties with the pediatric liver transplant community permit him to develop and investigate new ways to improve the outcome for pediatric liver transplant patients.
