Study for Children 7 to 12 Years Old With ADHD and / or Attention Problems

Why are we doing this research?

Cincinnati Children’s is conducting a research study, sometimes known as a clinical trial or clinical study, to learn more about how children with ADHD differ from children without ADHD in their cognitive functioning (thinking abilities).

Who can participate?

Children 7 to 12 years old with ADHD and/or who have problems with attention who are not currently taking ADHD medications may be eligible to participate.

Conditions

  • ADD - ADHD

What will happen in the study?

The study involves 1 study visit which will last about 2 ½ hours.

These are the things that your child will be asked to do in the study

    • Complete IQ and academic achievement testing
    • Possibly complete 2 tasks while on a computer and wearing an electrode net on his/her head to measure his/her brain activity

You, as the parent, will be asked some questions and will fill out forms while your child completes the tests.

Parents interested in having their child participate will be given a consent form that thoroughly explains all of the details of the study. A member of the study staff will review the consent form with you and will be sure that all of your questions are answered.

What are the good things that can happen from this research?

Being in this study will not help your child right now. However, we hope to learn more about how children with ADHD are different from children without ADHD. This may help other children with ADHD in the future.

What are the bad things that can happen from this research?

The risks from being in this study are very small or minimal. Possible risks and discomforts will be discussed with parents or guardians interested in learning more about the study.

Will you/your child be paid to be in this research study?

Families may receive up to $30 for time and effort for this 1-visit study.
