Eczema/Red, Itchy Rash Study for Children 1 and 2 Years Old

Why are we doing this research?

Cincinnati Children’s is conducting a research study, sometimes known as a clinical study, to look at the progression of allergic diseases in kids with atopic dermatitis/eczema.

Who can participate?

Children 1 and 2 years old who have eczema/red, itchy rash may be eligible to participate.

What will happen in the study?

This study involves 5 yearly visits (1 visit per year).

As the parent or guardian, you will be asked to complete a personal and family medical history questionnaire at each study visit. Your child will be asked to complete the following procedures:

  • Blood draw
  • Saliva collection
  • Skin prick allergy test

Parents interested in having their child participate will discuss the study with a member of the study staff prior to participation in the study, in order to address any questions you may have.

What are the good things that can happen from this research?

Your child will not receive a direct medical benefit from taking part in this study. However, the information learned from this study may benefit other children with allergic diseases in the future.

What are the bad things that can happen from this research?

Participants may experience mild discomfort from completing the procedures.

Will you/your child be paid to be in this research study?

Families may receive up to $300 for 5 study visits.
