Virtual Study for Transgender and Gender-Diverse Youth, Families, and Advocates

Why are we doing this research?

Cincinnati Children’s is conducting a research study to understand and improve decision making experiences for transgender and gender diverse youth and their families using group level assessment (GLA), a structured group activity completed virtually, to discuss and generate ideas.

Who can participate?

Self-identified transgender and gender-diverse teens and young adults 13 to 21 years old, as well as adult family members and community advocates (such as educators, staff and volunteers of community agencies) may be eligible to participate.

Conditions

  • Transgender Youth
  • Healthy Infants, Children and Adolescent Studies
  • Healthy Adults

What will happen in the study?

This study involves a one-time videoconference that will last about two hours with transgender adolescents, family members of transgender youth, healthcare providers and community advocates. The videoconference will be audio recorded. We will also take notes during the videoconference. All participants will be asked to keep the information discussed confidential.

Approximately one month after the videoconference, we will send you a short survey to complete. Once this data collection is complete, all identifiers will be removed from the data, meaning no one will be able to know who participated.

What are the good things that can happen from this research?

This is no direct medical benefit from participating in this study. We hope the information we learn will help us to improve and support the decision-making processes for transgender and gender-diverse youth and their families.

What are the bad things that can happen from this research?

There is a small risk that the discussion could trigger uncomfortable feelings. For that reason, at the beginning of the session, we will provide information for study team members that you or your child can contact should you/they feel distressed. This information will be discussed with the group and also provided in the virtual chat for reference throughout the session.

Will you/your child be paid to be in this research study?

Participants will receive a $20 gift card.
