Why Measure?
Our vision at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is to be the leader in improving child health. As a leader, we want to provide you with the information you need to make the best possible health care decisions for your child.
We closely monitor the quality of the care and services we provide by measuring what we do and how we do it. Most important, we listen to what our patients and families have to say about us! The information and feedback we gather is used to develop lasting, positive change in the way we deliver care.
The tools we use to check and measure our performance include:
- Phone and mail-in surveys regularly conducted with our patients and families
- Clinical outcomes (how are patients are doing following care / treatment)

How to Use Quality Measures
Quality measures are intended to help you see and compare the performance of various health care institutions. This information can be used in evaluating and choosing the best health care option for your family.
Quality measures tell you:
- Whether or not hospitals / providers are providing care in a timely manner
- Whether or not the care provided is safe and effective
- Whether or not health care delivery is patient centered
- The experience, knowledge and success rate of treating particular diseases / conditions
Data and information on the Cincinnati Children's web site regarding our quality and outcomes:
- is not provided as a means of treatment and / or medical advice
- does not establish a doctor-patient or other relationship
- is not intended nor should be assumed to guarantee a specific result
Our goal is to provide our patients and families with meaningful information to make informed decisions about their child's health care and to make data available on the quality of the services we provide. When deciding on treatment options and choosing a hospital, it is best to talk with your primary care physician. You should not attempt to choose a hospital based solely on the quality and outcomes information provided here.
Other Important Considerations
In addition to quality measures, here are some other important considerations when choosing the best possible care for your child:
- Is the institution recognized nationally and/or internationally?
- Does the hospital practice family-centered care?
- What types of services and programs are offered?
- Does the hospital provide on-site help and resources for families?
- Is the hospital actively involved in research?
See how Cincinnati Children's measures up against these additional considerations.
