Who We Are
The Center for Professional Excellence / Education at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center exists to develop, present and / or support educational opportunities and services that enhance the ability of our customers to deliver high-quality pediatric care. Our services include:
- Patient Services Orientation -- a program for new employees working within the Patient Services Department.
- Preceptor Program -- to equip health care providers with the knowledge and behaviors necessary to assist new staff to integrate into the institution.
- Continuing Education
- Inservices
- Consultation
- Safe Sitter Program -- a medically oriented instructional series that teaches youngsters how to handle emergencies when caring for younger children. The goal of Safe Sitter is to prepare adolescents for babysitting and to reduce the number of accidental and preventable deaths among children being care for by babysitters.
- Discussions in Delegation -- designed to clarify the Ohio Board of Nursing Standards and Rules on delegation as they relate to providers of nursing care, as well as enhance the ability of nurses to delegate nursing care to unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP).
- Nursing Grand Rounds -- a monthly one-hour program presented by the Center for Professional Excellence / Education, the Nursing Education Council and the Cincinnati Children's Patient Services Department.
- Conference Planning
- APN Pharmacology Series -- an every-other-month, one-hour program designed for the Advanced Practice Nurse with license requirements for Category D Continuing Education.
Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (OH-046/9-1-09) is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Ohio Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation (OBN-001-91).

Event Descriptions / Categories
To help our customers understand the categories used to classify the class / event offerings sponsored by the Center for Professional Excellence / Education at Cincinnati Children's, here are some brief descriptions:
Conferences
A conference is an event where two or more people, or a specialized group of people, meet to discuss and / or exchange information regarding a common topic(s) of interest or concern. For example, the Real Life Rehabilitation: Behavior and Transition Conference.
Lecture / Seminar
A lecture / seminar is an event where information on a specific subject is taught / presented before a targeted audience. A lecture / seminar is similar in nature to taking a class in college and often offers continuing education credits (CEUs) for attendees.
Meeting / Program
A meeting / program is an event where two or more people gather, sometimes on a consistent or regular basis, for a common purpose, such as a monthly breakfast meeting of researchers who meet to discuss one of the many aspects of clinical research study. Meetings / programs are often informal in nature.
General Announcement
A general announcement is a posting / listing of an upcoming event that may / may not be of interest to a broad number of people.

Other Education Opportunities at Cincinnati Children's
In addition to the programs offered by the Center for Professional Excellence / Education, Cincinnati Children's offers a variety of other educational opportunities:
- The Continuing Medical Education Office maintains a database of accrued Category 1 CME credit, provides transcripts, and assists in the coordination of CME activities within the scope of the CME mission statement.
- In conjunction with the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Cincinnati Children's offers six Pediatric Residency Programs.
