Our Pediatric Pain Medicine Fellowship is an ACGME accredited, twelve-month program designed to prepare the trainees for clinical and academic careers in the field of pediatric pain medicine. The fellowship candidates must be board eligible / board certified in anesthesiology. The goal of the fellowship is to train a well-rounded clinician skilled in management of children and young adults with acute and chronic pain problems, with an emphasis on a multidisciplinary model of care, utilizing a biopsychosocial approach. In order to accomplish this goal, the fellowship is organized in close collaboration between the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and the University of Cincinnati Hospital (UC Health), our partner in adult pain medicine education. The fellowship will be divided equally (6 months and 6 months) between the two institutions. They both offer outstanding infrastructure, wealth and breadth of cases, and an experienced and enthusiastic staff. The entire physician faculty involved in the fellowship holds medical staff appointments at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
The role of the fellow will transition quickly from participant observer to primary physician contact, always with the direct supervision and guidance of the attending physician. Specifically, clinical experience will involve daily clinical rounds and consultations on inpatient rotations, participation in pain management procedures as indicated, weekly interdisciplinary team meetings, new-patient and follow-up evaluations, and phone consultations, as well as weekly scholastic activities (lectures, workshops, journal clubs, “board reviews”, etc.). All cases are supervised, reviewed and discussed with the fellow on a daily basis.
