Integrative Morphology Core

The Digestive Health Center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

Director: David Witte, MD

Research Pathology Service | Live Microscopy Service | Laser Capture Microdissection Service

Research Pathology Service

Personnel will provide technical support for routine morphology based techniques including tissue processing, routine histology, in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry, routine and special histochemical staining, photography, and electron microscopy support.

The Integrative Morphology Core will also provide experienced microscopic analyses, extensive pathologic evaluation and consultation to the investigators regarding the interpretation of morphology data as well as guidance regarding experimental design.

Strategy and Experimental Design

Remember that Consulting is Free.

Discussing what you want to do with the Integrative Core Staff for 30 minutes before you start your experiment might save lots of time in the end.

Live Microscopy Service

The Live Microscopy facility has 2 advanced Zeiss confocal microscopes for use, one of which has the additional equipment for two-photon microscopy. Two-photon excitation produces images with the same resolution as confocal imaging, but is applicable for deep tissue imaging in living specimens and/or local deposition of energy in three dimensions for other purposes (uncaging of fluorophores, targeted cell ablation, etc.)  For more information visit the Live Microscopy web page.

Laser Capture Microdissection Service

There are currently 2 Laser Capture Microdissection instruments.

  1. Acturus Veritas microdissection system has both a UV cutting laser and IR capture laser which allows much more experimental versatility.  Extensive computer controls increase the automation of sample handling and capture that is available in the Veritas system which allows users to work more effectively and productively. This system also has improved fluorescence capability.
  2. PixCell II LCM System from Acturus Engineering has fluorescence capability.  For more information visit the Laser Capture Microdissection web page.
