Grace L. Banik, MD

As a pediatric otolaryngologist, I care for children with a wide range of ear, nose, throat, head and neck, and airway conditions. My clinical focus is pediatric thyroid disease, as well as congenital and acquired lesions such as branchial cleft cysts and nasal dermoid cysts.

Caring for children and their families is both a privilege and a responsibility that I hold deeply. I know that I often meet families during stressful and uncertain times, and I strive to not only provide the highest level of care but also make their experience as positive and supported as possible. I also believe the best care comes from collaboration, and I work closely with colleagues across specialties to provide thoughtful, individualized care for every child and family.

My primary research interest is pediatric thyroid disease and cancer. I lead a multi-institutional research effort using advanced molecular and cellular technologies to better understand pediatric thyroid cancer with the goal of improving treatment and outcomes, particularly as new targeted therapies become available. I also conduct clinical research focused on improving care and outcomes for children with thyroid disease.

Education and mentorship are important parts of my work. I am a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society and am passionate about preparing the next generation of otolaryngologists. During my chief residency year, I received the Resident Teacher of the Year Award, and I was later inducted into the Muriel Steel Society Honor Roll at UCSF in recognition of excellence in mentorship. I have also received research honors, including the Robert Maxwell Byers Award for Best Clinical Paper from the American Head and Neck Society.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two children. We love being outdoors and making the most of our time together. Music has also been a lifelong passion of mine, including everything from classical to electronic dance music.
