Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center has again attained Magnet® recognition as part of the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®. This voluntary credentialing program for hospitals recognizes excellence in nursing. This credential is the highest honor an organization can receive for professional nursing practice. Cincinnati Children’s was first designated a Magnet® facility in 2009 and our re-designation period is 2013-2017.
Professional development of our nurses at Cincinnati Children’s is viewed as essential to the delivery of quality services within our institution and to improvements in our patients’ outcomes. To this end, Patient Services’ Center for Professional Excellence has consistently supported and developed educational opportunities which incorporate multiple dissemination methods and various learning formats. Our presentation methods include; live, online, podcasting, webinar, and journal clubs, to mention just a few. Our nurses can access a variety of educational programming via computer at Cincinnati Children’s, from home, and/or from anywhere that they can access the Internet. In 2012, over 400 continuing education courses were offered at Cincinnati Children’s; all programs offering one contact hour or less are free to all of our nurses. We pride ourselves on having established our Nursing Grand Rounds as a one hour CE program that allows our nurses to engage in professional development and obtain all of the contact hours needed to meet their licensure requirements.
