Laura Bowers, MS, APRN, CPNP-PC

I am a nurse practitioner specializing in plastic and reconstructive surgery, plagiocephaly, and burn and wound care. I have worked closely in this field for most of my career and love the variety it offers. This specialty allows me to continue to learn and develop as a provider while working closely with children and their families with varied medical needs.

Before joining the Cincinnati Children's plastic surgery team, I worked for many years at Shriners Hospitals for Children. While working there, I developed a vast knowledge of burn care and plastic and reconstructive surgery care. During my time here, I was honored to be nominated by my peers and receive a nursing excellence award.

I became interested in the nursing profession because of my mother. As a critical care nurse and nursing faculty, my mother had a love for science, and her passion for nursing care was contagious. I found myself interested in the world of biology, specifically regarding how and why the body works in the ways it does. I was drawn into her discussions with her students and found myself wanting to learn more. I knew that a position as a nurse practitioner would provide me the opportunities to continue to learn and help others.

I have always enjoyed working with children. Even my earliest employment opportunities involved children, from babysitting to teaching swim lessons. I am passionate about childhood development and helping others understand how this applies to the child's unique healthcare needs. Children are incredibly resilient, and they often are the ones who teach me ways to become a better provider. I believe strongly in a holistic approach to healthcare and family members being active participants in the development of treatment plans and caring for their children. I want children of all ages to feel comfortable with the care they receive, and I want all patients and their families to feel respected and heard.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and three children. I also love being involved in all of their extra-curricular activities.
