About

Biography

I am a pediatric endocrinology fellow caring for patients with diabetes as well as other disorders of the endocrine glands and the hormones they produce.

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 9 years old. Following my diagnosis, I wanted to be like the nurse practitioners and doctors I saw during my clinic visits. They were role models who seemed to possess so much knowledge, but I have the added perspective of someone who has lived with this disease. Every patient and family I encounter has a unique story, and it's my job to make their condition fade into the background, so it isn't a major obstacle in their daily life. I want to be considered a team member and provide encouragement and clinical guidance.

Endocrinology is a specialty in which I can provide continuity of care, which I love. The many stages of childhood and adolescence bring new adventures as well as new challenges, and I want to ensure my patients are equipped to overcome any hardships they may face while watching them develop their own strengths and personalities. Our greatest reward as physicians, particularly as pediatricians, is creating trusting, long-term relationships with patients and families. Patients are so much more than their lab values!

My research focuses on the upstream determinants to prevent admissions for diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and quality improvement research to improve outpatient safety for patients with type 1 diabetes.

When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time on the water whenever possible, whether boating, kayaking or swimming. My partner and I also love exploring new cities within driving distance. So far, we've been to Ashland, North Carolina; Red River Gorge in Kentucky; Nashville, Tennessee and Charleston, South Carolina. We are also big Green Bay Packer fans!
