Michael Fisher

Michael Fisher became president and CEO of Cincinnati Children’s, a nonprofit, pediatric, academic medical center, in January 2010. He led an organization of more than 15,000 employees who had more than 1.3 million patient encounters with children from all 50 U.S. states and more than 60 countries last year.

Over the years, Fisher has received numerous honors and recognitions. In 2017, Modern Healthcare ranked him among the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare.

Fisher currently chairs the Children’s Hospital’s Solutions for Patient Safety, an international network of more than 130 pediatric hospitals. Their efforts have saved more than 9,000 children from serious harm and an estimated $148 million in healthcare costs.

He is a strong advocate for children and healthy communities.

• His 2020 strategic plan calls for effective local partnerships to reduce infant mortality and prematurity, improve kindergarten readiness and third-grade reading, and address the social influences of health.
• He serves as co-chair of a collaborative to address childhood poverty in Cincinnati.
• In 2016, he announced a significant five-year investment to drive community development and improve child health in the local neighborhood where the medical center is located, Avondale.

During Fisher’s tenure, the medical center

• Announced the largest expansion in medical center history. The five-year critical care building project, will expand services for our sickest children, including patients needing newborn and pediatric intensive care, cardiac care and bone marrow transplants. It will also significantly increase overall space to improve the patient, family and employee experience.
• Improved access and experiences for patients and families through significant upgrades to and expansions of facilities and infrastructure, including mental health care, cancer care, neighborhood urgent care centers and more.
• Increased external research funding from $143 million to more than $200 million annually.
• Reinforced and expanded its longstanding commitment to pediatric scientific research with the opening of a new clinical research center in 2015.
• More than doubled annual philanthropic support, including a comprehensive fundraising effort that has met its $250 million goal a year early.
• Maintained its #3 spot for seven consecutive years in U.S. News and World Report’s Best Children’s Hospital ranking.

Prior to his appointment at Cincinnati Children’s, Fisher was president and CEO of Premier Manufacturing Support Services, where his company was a supplier to the global automotive industry. He then served as president and CEO of the 5,000-member Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce.

A graduate of Stanford University, Fisher has provided board and philanthropic leadership to a range of not-for-profit and civic causes. He and his wife, Suzette, have four adult children.
