I'm a nurse practitioner specializing in pediatric primary care, and I provide services at Children's Health Care of Batesville and Greensburg. Our practice offers well-care, sick care and basic mental health care. I love that we are connected to the best pediatric hospital in the country with some of the best specialists.
While I was in college, I was given the unique opportunity to work at a therapeutic recreational summer camp for children with medically complex conditions. Working as a camp counselor and student nurse allowed me to see kids with complex medical needs thrive in an environment outside the healthcare setting.
I started my nursing career as a pediatric nurse and spent several years working as a floor nurse before furthering my education to become a pediatric clinical nurse specialist (CNS). During that time, my primary focus was improving the quality and safety of care for hospitalized children. I was also building my own family and missed working directly with patients and their families. At that point, I was drawn to primary care because I was experiencing it from the patient/family side of things.
My practice approach is to treat each patient and their family with dignity and respect. It's important to me to include the patient in their care plan. I spend much of my time speaking directly to the patient in simple terms that children can understand. As a parent, I know that having children can be really hard, even on the best days. So, I offer care and compassion to families because it can be challenging, especially when their child is sick.
I spend my free time with my husband, who is an elementary school physical education teacher, and our two children. I have a daughter and a son, and I love watching them grow, learn and try new activities. We love taking trips to Walt Disney World, and we attend St. Mary's Church in Rushville, Indiana.
