Niall Khan, MD, MCh, FRCS (CTh)

I am a congenital heart surgeon with specialized training in cardiothoracic and congenital heart surgery. I completed my cardiothoracic surgery training in Ireland, including dedicated training in congenital heart surgery at Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin, and earned my Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in Cardiothoracic Surgery (FRCS CTh). I later received a national scholarship to pursue advanced fellowship training in congenital heart surgery and advanced heart failure at Cincinnati Children's. My clinical interests include neonatal heart surgery and the implantation of mechanical heart pumps for children and adults.

I find congenital cardiac surgery both intellectually challenging and deeply rewarding — a field that demands the application of both art and science in equal measure. My goal is not only to provide excellent surgical care, but also to make what can be a difficult experience as reassuring and understandable as possible.

I understand that, for parents, entrusting the care of their child to a surgical team can bring an overwhelming sense of uncertainty and, at times, helplessness. I believe strongly in spending time with patients and families, keeping them well informed, and helping them navigate one of the most difficult moments in their lives so they feel confident their child is in safe and caring hands.

Children are among the most resilient and inspiring patients we have the privilege to care for. I am continually humbled by their strength and determination, and consider it a privilege to help them return to the things that make childhood special — growing, playing, learning, and simply being kids.
