As an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN), I worked in Pediatric Primary Care, here at Cincinnati Children’s, before I came to our Diabetes Center. Our practice includes a group of multi-disciplinary providers striving to provide the best care for our patients with diabetes. We encourage patients and families to grow in their knowledge and comfort with this condition.
In 2000, a peer that I worked with at Cincinnati Children’s invited me to apply for a nurse practitioner position on the diabetes team. What drew me to the Diabetes Center was the multi-disciplinary team approach, because we treat the whole person and the family unit. Young people with diabetes provide an opportunity to guide patients and their families through different life stages as they manage their chronic health concerns.
I strive to get to know the family and patients as individuals, so we can tailor the care they need to their lives. As the patients grow into young adults, our goal is that they can manage their diabetes when the time comes for them to transition to an adult diabetes care provider.
I have been on two mission trips to Mexico and one to Honduras. On my first trip to Mexico, we had an opportunity to climb a dormant volcano!
