As an orthopaedic surgeon, or “bone doctor,” I care for children and adolescents with trauma, sports injuries and fractures. I also treat congenital orthopaedic conditions of the foot and ankle, such as clubfoot, vertical talus, tarsal coalitions, and many others.
The physician who treated my gymnastics fracture when I was 13 inspired me to become an orthopaedic surgeon. His jovial bedside manner and ability not only to fix what was broken, but also help me return to the sport I loved, left a lasting impression.
I really enjoy getting to know my patients and families because it helps me tailor treatment goals throughout the healing process. I work alongside a wonderful physician assistant and nursing team who play an important role in patient care and communication.
As a member of the multidisciplinary trauma team, I received the Cincinnati Children's 2019 Annual Faculty Award. I was also a 2020 POSNA traveling fellow. In this role, I traveled abroad to learn new techniques and exchange ideas with other orthopaedic surgeons across Europe. In 2021, I was awarded the Cincinnati Children's Clinical Care Achievement Award. I enjoy teaching the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons about safely performing surgeries and I'm honored to represent our profession at the highest level as a member of the POSNA board of directors as well as serving as the division director of Orthopaedic Surgery here at Cincinnati Children's.
My research focuses on making fracture care safer and more efficient. My colleagues and I are also gathering multicenter data on fractures and infections in children to identify best treatment approaches. In addition, we collaborate with orthopaedic specialists around the world to improve outcomes for children undergoing foot and ankle surgery.
During my free time, I like to hang out with my family, watch my children play sports, travel and hike. I used to be a collegiate fencer, and in high school I was a Level 10 gymnast.
