Tyler M. Spivey, MD

As a pediatric neurologist, I am passionate about helping children and their families navigate the complexities of neurologic conditions. I specialize in neurology, particularly inpatient neurology, epilepsy, neurocritical care and EEG. My approach to care is rooted in the belief that the best care starts with listening. I know that families often arrive with many questions and concerns, and my goal is to ensure that every patient and family feels heard and understood. I strive to guide conversations so we gather the information we need while making sure families have the opportunity to share what matters most to them.

I am a strong advocate for shared decision-making and view patients and families as essential members of the care team. When there are multiple options, I try to take the time to discuss the benefits and limitations of each, working together to develop a plan that aligns with each family’s goals and values. Even when there is uncertainty, I believe in being honest about what we know, what we don’t and what our next steps will be. My hope is that after each encounter, families feel they have a clear understanding of the plan, feeling comfortable with the path forward, and knowing that I will continue to advocate for their child every step of the way.

My fascination with the human brain and the challenge of solving complex diagnostic questions drew me to neurology. I chose to work with children because I believe that neurologic health during childhood can shape an entire lifetime. It is a privilege to support families through challenging situations and to work together toward the best possible outcomes for their children. I also enjoy the teamwork and problem-solving involved in inpatient pediatric neurology, where timely decisions can make a meaningful difference for children with serious neurologic conditions.

My research focuses on pediatric neurocritical care and the use of continuous EEG monitoring in critically ill children. I am particularly interested in how advanced monitoring tools can help us detect neurologic changes earlier, guide treatment decisions, and improve outcomes for children with serious neurologic illnesses.

Outside of work, I enjoy staying active and spending time outdoors, whether I’m exercising, riding bikes or hiking with my dog. I also love exploring new places and trying new restaurants and cuisines. When I’m at home, you’ll often find me cooking, baking or relaxing with a good book.
