I'm an attending physician specializing in the evaluation of developmental delays and developmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), intellectual disability and learning difficulties. I treat young children in the clinic when concerns for a developmental delay have been raised. I see them in a multidisciplinary team format to evaluate their development, diagnose a developmental disorder when appropriate, and counsel families on the next steps.
When I started my general pediatric career in 2000, I joined a practice whose pediatric developmental specialist had recently moved to another state. As the new pediatrician, I became the primary care provider for his patients, many of whom had a developmental disability since that was his area of expertise. Over the years, those patients and their families taught me so much. I was inspired by the way the parents advocated for their children and I considered it an honor to partner with them. They taught me the power of persistence when meeting the needs of children with neurodevelopmental differences. After a few years in primary care, with the encouragement of some of my patients and their families, I decided to pursue a formal fellowship in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.
Every child deserves a team. A group of hard-working people who support, advocate and do their best to ensure the child can reach their full potential. I see myself as a member of my patient's team, partnering with the child and their family to navigate challenges, celebrate successes and, most importantly, keep moving forward.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, trying new cuisines, and playing pickleball with my husband and two children. I also enjoy spending time with my aging parents, both of whom were (and still remain) invaluable members of my own team.
