I am a pediatric anesthesiologist who provides anesthesia services to children of all ages, including general and regional anesthesia (peripheral nerve blocks), pain management, infant spinal anesthesia and maternal-fetal anesthesia. My care philosophy involves attention to detail and a high patient safety standard. It also emphasizes collaboration, teamwork, individualized anesthetic formulation and attending to the complexity of our patients. Remaining vigilant at all times is my mantra.
Multiple factors inspired me to become a Doctor of Medicine specializing in anesthesiology, including the innocence and resilience found in children, the doctor-family relationship and interaction, the devotion of these families to their children, and the trust they place in us during the perioperative period. I find anesthesiology an intellectually stimulating field where science, art, manual dexterity and skill come together to craft an individualized patient plan.
Anesthesiology has allowed other medical advancements to flourish since it provides the conditions to execute complex and minimally invasive surgical procedures. Anesthesiologists are the leaders in the perioperative environment and are involved in direct patient care as well as coordinating the surgical workflow and logistics. As a pediatric anesthesiologist, I am involved in various surgical procedures across many specialties for patients of all ages—from newborns and infants to teenagers and young adults. At Cincinnati Children's, we even provide anesthetic care for the fetus and mother for maternal-fetal intrauterine procedures. Anesthesiologists help provide patient comfort and pain relief, increase safety standards, and provide critical care and resuscitative measures. We work collaboratively with various members of the health care team, such as surgeons, bedside and operating room (OR) nurses, nurse practitioners (NPs) and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs). We also teach and train the new generation of pediatric anesthesiologists.
As a researcher, I am focused on the applications of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in children during the perioperative period. I am particularly interested in gastric ultrasound and the safety and applications of infant spinal anesthesia.
I was honored to be named chief resident during my anesthesiology residency training and receive the Good Citizen distinction. I also scored at the top 95th percentile nationally on my American Board of Anesthesiology exams for board certification, receiving special recognition.
I love U.S. National Parks and aspire to visit them all. I also enjoy instant photography with my Polaroid camera, which I carry with me on trips and special occasions.
