About

Biography

Pediatric and adolescent gynecology perfectly combines everything I'm passionate about in medicine. In the clinic, I work closely with patients and their families to offer guidance and support around menstrual concerns and reproductive health. In the operating room, I'm able to provide hands-on care such as placing intrauterine devices (IUDs) under sedation, removing ovarian cysts and diagnosing endometriosis. I also handle complex reconstructive cases with urology and pediatric surgery.

My clinical interests include menstrual suppression, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), Müllerian anomalies and disorders of sexual development.

A special interest of mine—both clinically and academically—is endometriosis. Endometriosis is a chronic pain disorder that requires surgery for a definitive diagnosis. While this procedure can mark a turning point in a patient's care, the addition of surgical pain presents unique challenges, particularly for those already navigating ongoing chronic pelvic pain. My research focuses on improving the surgical experience for patients with endometriosis through the application of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols.

Chronic pain disorders are a known risk factor for substance use, and many patients receive their first opiate prescription as part of surgery. Drawing on earlier training experiences with patients affected by substance use disorders, I'm especially interested in how ERAS can reduce opiate use in surgery without compromising pain control or recovery outcomes.

In addition to my ERAS and endometriosis work, I'm involved in projects related to neovaginal creation, Müllerian anomalies and menstrual management of patients undergoing bone marrow transplant.

Together, my clinical and research efforts support a shared goal: enhancing quality of life for girls and adolescents facing a wide range of gynecologic conditions.
