Thursday, August 31, 2023

Cincinnati Children’s has issued its latest annual Community Impact Report, which highlights how the nonprofit is transforming and improving child health throughout the region.

For example, Cincinnati Children’s has developed a collaboration with Adams County, the report notes. The five-year commitment includes annual back-to-school health fairs, where kids get free health screenings, immunizations, nutrition education and mental health resources.

“Our more than 18,500 employees are transforming child health and making a difference, whether by advocating for healthcare access and equity, providing clinical care, conducting research, advancing education or serving in the community,” said Steve Davis, MD, president and CEO of Cincinnati Children’s. “Our work is guided by our commitment to what we call the four Cs – Care, Community, Cure and Culture, and that includes our goal of ensuring diversity, equity and inclusion.”

Highlights noted in the report include a $108 million investment in a new mental health center on the College Hill campus of Cincinnati Children’s, which will improve personalized care for patients and enhance visits by families when it opens Oct. 16. Cincinnati Children’s, which is one of the nation’s largest providers of pediatric mental health services, averaged more than 207,000 visits, screenings, consultations and admissions related to mental health in Fiscal Year 2021-22. More than 4,000 inpatients, ranging in age from 2 to 17 years old, are cared for every year at the College Hill campus. The center also offers outpatient services.

Overall during FY21-22, Cincinnati Children’s had more than:

  • 1.65 million patient encounters
  • 31,000 admissions
  • 1.4 million outpatient visits
  • 168,000 emergency room and urgent care visits
  • 123,000 telehealth visits
