About Research
Winslow Research Pavilion

Cincinnati Children’s Winslow Research Pavilion is the new home of the Vaccine Research Center, the Discover Together Biobank and a new Freezer Archive for long-term storage of research samples. The building also provides a location for Cincinnati Children’s to hold programs for students and adults in the Avondale community, pictured, Friday, April 17, 2026, in Cincinnati.

Advancing Discovery Through Integrated Research Infrastructure

The Winslow Research Pavilion represents a major investment in the future of pediatric research at Cincinnati Children’s. This state-of-the-art facility expands laboratory and clinical research capacity while bringing together critical research programs in a single, purpose-built environment designed to accelerate discovery and improve patient outcomes.

Located in Avondale, the nearly 45,000-square-foot pavilion strengthens Cincinnati Children’s position as one of the largest pediatric research organizations in the world by enhancing how scientists, clinicians and research teams work together to translate discoveries into real-world impact.

Designed to Accelerate Translation from Lab to Patient

The Winslow Research Pavilion was developed to deepen collaboration across disciplines and reduce barriers between research and clinical application.

By co-locating key programs and teams, the facility enables more efficient study execution, stronger coordination, and faster movement of discoveries from early-stage research into clinical care.

As part of Cincinnati Children’s broader research ecosystem, the pavilion adds critical infrastructure that supports innovation at scale and reinforces the institution’s reputation as one of the most innovative organizations in the United States.

Home to Leading Research Programs

The pavilion serves as the new home for several cornerstone research programs:

  • Vaccine Research Center: Occupying the top two floors, the center conducts outpatient and overnight clinical studies, supported by dedicated research space including 16 inpatient beds for adult vaccine trials. Since its founding, the center has enrolled more than 20,000 volunteers across more than 250 clinical trials, contributing to the evaluation of many lifesaving vaccines for children and adults.
  • Discover Together Biobank: Now unified within a single location, the Biobank provides standardized acquisition, processing, storage and distribution of biospecimens and associated clinical data. The Discover Together Biobank supports individuals and families who want to contribute to research, while the shared facility biobank provides investigators with streamlined access to high-quality specimens and data to accelerate discovery.
  • Freezer Archive: A new centralized freezer archive provides long-term, large-scale storage of research samples, supporting continuity, data integrity and future scientific exploration.

Together, these programs create a highly integrated environment that supports clinical, translational and basic science research.

Built for Scale, Efficiency and Impact

The Winslow Research Pavilion houses multidisciplinary teams including physicians, research investigators, nurses, coordinators, data managers, laboratory scientists and investigational pharmacists.

By consolidating previously distributed operations into a single facility, the pavilion improves coordination, increases research capacity, and enables higher throughput across studies and biospecimen management. This operational efficiency directly supports faster, more effective research outcomes.

Expanding Access and Community Engagement

In addition to advancing research, the Winslow Research Pavilion serves as a hub for education and community connection.

The facility hosts programs for local students and residents, including hands-on learning opportunities with scientists and clinicians and participation in initiatives such as Discovery Day and the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program.

Dedicated spaces within the building also support community meetings and engagement, reinforcing Cincinnati Children’s commitment to partnership in the Avondale neighborhood.

A Strategic Investment in the Future of Research

Cincinnati Children’s invested $42 million in the design, construction and equipping of the Winslow Research Pavilion, reflecting a long-term commitment to advancing pediatric research and discovery.

By expanding infrastructure, integrating key capabilities, and fostering collaboration across disciplines, the pavilion strengthens the institution’s ability to pursue high-impact research, attract top talent, and deliver innovations that improve health outcomes for children and families worldwide.
