Norovirus P Particle Vaccine Development Platform
Summary
This technology utilizes the Norovirus P particle as a platform for the development of novel vaccines.
Overview
The Norovirus P-particle is composed of 24 copies of the protrusion domain of the norovirus capsid protein. The particle is easily produced, highly stable, and immunogenic. Surface exposed loops of the particle are suitable for insertion of foreign antigens (Rotavirus VP8) and have proved more effective at producing antibodies than free antigens alone. Additionally, mice immunized with the VP8 P particle proved more effective at protecting against rotavirus shedding than those immunized with VP8 alone. Thus, the P particle provides a unique and flexible platform for vaccine development, optimal for the insertion of foreign antigens.
