I know that being admitted to the hospital is scary for children and their families. You feel unsure about what to expect. As a pediatric nurse practitioner, I always remember that my patients are also someone's child. And I advocate and care for each patient to the best of my ability.
I work as part of a team of specialists to care for inpatient complex care patients and acutely ill medical patients. I treat and manage patients from infancy through early adulthood.
We get to know our complex care population very well. I enjoy connecting with patients and families during their admissions. But the most rewarding part of my job is seeing a patient improve and leave the hospital for home.
I always knew I wanted to be in a role where I could help someone. I began my nursing career in the Cincinnati Children’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in 2007, after graduating with my BSN from The Ohio State University. As a bedside nurse, I developed clinical and leadership skills. In 2011, I became a PICU nurse manager. That role pushed me to earn my MSN from the University of Cincinnati in 2015. I specialized as an acute care pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP). I began work as an advanced practice provider (APP) in the Division of Hospital Medicine in 2015.
In 2018, I became the lead hospital medicine APP. This role lets me work closely with hospital medicine leadership and other APPs to grow and improve the APPs in our division.
When I’m not at work, I spend time with my husband and three boys. I enjoy watching them play sports and cheering them on from the sidelines. I also enjoy reading, exercising and being outside.
