I am an attending child and adolescent psychiatrist, passionate about helping young people experiencing a wide range of mental health challenges. An area of specialty for me is providing consultation to medical providers who are caring for young people with mental health conditions. I am also the director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Training Program, working closely with physicians training to be child and adolescent psychiatrists. I enjoy helping these doctors develop their knowledge and skills to provide our patients with the best care.
My approach to care begins with an assessment to develop a treatment plan that manages symptoms and impairments arising from mental health conditions. A team approach involving the patient, the family and the doctor is essential to understanding the goals of the patient and their family so we can collaborate to develop a treatment plan together for the best possible outcomes.
My interest in this work stems from a sense of mission and a desire to help children and families manage their mental health conditions and symptoms. I’m also a researcher focused on the youth suicide crisis and the challenges associated with side effects from some treatments.
When I’m not working, I love reading books written for young people and swapping recommendations with the patients and families I see. If I were not a physician, I might have been a children's librarian.
