I’m an advanced practice provider specializing in emergency medicine and urgent care. I try to treat patients and families as I want to be treated—with respect and empathy. Every patient and family is different. What may not seem like a big deal to some, may create a lot of stress for others. For example, a child with a simple fever can become a stressful event for a single mom who has to miss work. I try to evaluate the entire picture, not just the issue in front of me, and offer assistance and resources as much as possible.
As a mother, I spent many hours at Cincinnati Children’s after my first child was born. Their care inspired me to return to school to become a nurse and work at Cincinnati Children’s. Working in the emergency department or urgent care allows me to help families dealing with sudden, unexpected injuries and illnesses. I help them manage their urgent issue and hopefully provide some education that enables them to lead healthier lives. I love working with children because they are so strong and resilient.
Families sometimes apologize to me in urgent care when they come in for a minor issue. Although the visit may not have been needed, I assure them that they know their child best and that we are available to help them with any concerns. My time is not wasted, even if they only need reassurance, which I’m happy to provide.
I’m a proud grandmother of six (soon to be seven) grandchildren. In my free time, I’m their biggest cheerleader at sporting events and other activities. I enjoy spending time outdoors—hiking and kayaking.
