About

Biography

As a pediatric otolaryngologist, I focus on treating head and neck disorders and have a special interest in voice and airway reconstruction. I also work with a multidisciplinary team to perform fetal airway surgery in patients with airway obstruction that can complicate breathing after delivery. I value collaboration within my department and with colleagues from other specialties, with a shared goal of providing holistic care for our patients.

From a young age, I have valued interpersonal connections. I grew up traveling overseas, living in five countries before returning to the United States for college. This nurtured an innate interest in connecting with other people and forging diverse relationships. Later, during my surgical residency training, I found that my happiest days—even those that were my hardest—were when I was at the children's hospital. This ultimately confirmed my decision to be a pediatric head and neck surgeon.

My care approach is patient centered. I treat each child as though they are extended family. Hospitals can be scary places, and I try to make the experience fun, whether in clinic or the operating room. I’m not afraid to be silly with my patients if it means I can connect with them—those moments are often the best parts of my day.

My research is focused on optimizing and restoring voice after airway reconstruction. A person’s voice is such an identifying feature. Many children who undergo massive airway reconstructions that allow them to breathe and live comfortably without tracheostomies can struggle to be heard after surgery. With the incredible team in the Pediatric Voice Disorders Clinic, we hope to master the challenging balance between breathing comfortably and voicing clearly, to optimize a child’s quality of life after airway surgery.

I am a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Society and was honored to receive the Women in Otolaryngology Exemplary Senior Trainee Award from the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Foundation during my residency. I was recently awarded the Peter Koltai Award for research on endoscopic voice surgery in children after airway reconstruction from the American Broncho-Esophagological Association.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our son and his fur brother. I also like exploring new restaurants and passionately following cooking competition shows from the couch.
