About

Biography

I am a neonatologist with clinical and research interests in neonatal nephrology, including the long-term outcomes of infants who required dialysis in the NICU. I earned my medical degree in Lima, Peru, and completed my pediatrics residency at the University of Florida. In addition to my clinical training, I pursued a research fellowship in Newborn Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center / Harvard Medical School in Boston. During this time, I conducted and published research with a focus on improving care for underserved populations. Throughout residency, I have continued cultivating this mission by conducting research and fieldwork to help families enroll their children in public health insurance programs. My work in this area was supported by a grant from the American Academy of Pediatrics. In 2022, my efforts in the field were recognized with the Audrey L. Schiebler Award for Excellence in Child Advocacy by the University of Florida. In 2023, I also gained national recognition with the David C. Leach Award from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for my contributions to child health advocacy.

During fellowship, I discovered my passion for neonatal nephrology. My research has included evaluating the incidence of early acute kidney injury in infants with twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome and participating in the NIH-supported workshop to “Address Kidney Health in the NICU Graduate.” I am currently involved in several collaborative efforts to advance neonatal kidney research, including work with the Neonatal Kidney Collaborative and the Research Incubator for Neonatal Kidney.
