This imagery celebrates and normalizes the diverse, non-traditional ways NICU families provide breastmilk for their medically fragile infants. Photos highlight human milk not just as food, but as life-saving medical therapy and a baby's first immune system that actively reduces rates of deadly infections like Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC). Visually, this asset shifts away from traditional breastfeeding imagery to honor the beautifully complex reality of the NICU experience including pumping, tube feeding, and clinical care, underscoring the message that providing milk looks different for everyone, and every drop is a life-promoting victory.

Perinatal Institute

The Perinatal Institute at Cincinnati Children’s unites world-class clinical care, research, education, and community health to give every newborn the best possible start – before, during, and after birth. From the most complex conditions to early-life challenges, we set the pace for what neonatal care can achieve.

Where Leading Science Meets Compassionate Care for Every Newborn

The Cincinnati Children’s Perinatal Institute leads neonatal care across local, regional, and national levels – bringing together clinical care, research, quality improvement, and public health to reduce the impact of prematurity and improve outcomes for newborns with subspecialty needs.

Ranked among the nation’s top five neonatology programs by U.S. News & World Report, our Level IV Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides the region’s highest level of medical and nursing care to premature and critically ill newborns requiring multidisciplinary care. We treat all pediatric conditions, including the rarest and most complex conditions.

Our nationally recognized neonatology team manages newborn care at nurseries across the Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and Dayton communities. Together, we translate scientific discoveries into better care and healthier futures for babies everywhere.
