I am a clinical neuropsychologist with expertise in the neuropsychological assessment of individuals with congenital heart disease (CHD). These conditions, while inherently related to the anatomical structure and function of the heart, can impact brain development and have lasting consequences for how an individual thinks, feels and interprets the world around them. It is thus my primary role with each patient to give them a better understanding of their own strengths. My approach to patient care is deeply personalized, recognizing that each patient’s needs are unique and best understood through direct engagement and thoughtful inquiry.
My professional journey is driven by a profound curiosity about the brain’s functions and how its intricate mechanisms influence individual perceptions of the world. This curiosity was further ignited by my experience as a mother, which deepened my passion for understanding the brain-heart connection, particularly in children with CHD. Recognizing that more adults are living with these conditions than children, my work now naturally extends to following these patients throughout their lifespan, providing continuous and informed care. As a multilingual Latina, I aim to always be culturally sensitive to my patients’ needs and am committed to providing comprehensive care that respects and incorporates diverse backgrounds.
Beyond my professional achievements, I am an avid gamer. This passion began as a college pastime and has evolved into a cherished family activity. Gaming serves as a unique tool in my practice, allowing me to connect with patients on their terms and build rapport through shared experiences. This innovative approach not only facilitates communication but also fosters trust and understanding, further enhancing the quality of care I provide.
I am grateful I can contribute by leveraging my knowledge and personal and professional experience to advance innovation in the field and enhance my patients’ care.
