The Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Cincinnati Children’s offers specialized diagnostic laboratory services focused on the role of the human complement system in immune-mediated renal diseases. Founded by complement biology pioneer Dr. Clark West, our Nephrology Clinical Laboratory supports the diagnosis and management of a wide range of conditions, including:
- Glomerulonephritis
- Complement deficiencies
- Iron deficiency
- Dysgammaglobulinemias
- Immunoglobulin subclass deficiencies
- Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
- Therapy-induced immune deficiencies
- Hereditary angioedema
Expertise in Thrombotic Microangiopathies (TMA)
A key area of focus for our lab is diagnostic testing for thrombotic microangiopathies (TMA), including:
- Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS)
- Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP)
Research and Development Services
The Nephrology Clinical Lab also assists investigators across Cincinnati Children's and around the globe in all stages of biomarker research as collaborations or fee for service, from pre-clinical discovery and assay development to validation in clinical trials. The non-clinical testing is performed in our CAP and GCLP laboratory to ensure high quality data and accurate results.
