Ahlee Kim, MD

Position after Fellowship: Assistant Professor, University of Tennessee, Le Bonheur Children's Hospital

I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to train at the Pediatric Endocrine Fellowship Program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Cincinnati Children's provided a wonderful environment for me to grow as an academic pediatric endocrinologist. My dream has always been to become a physician scientist. Naturally, I was excited to learn about the robust clinical and research training programs at Cincinnati Children's. Cincinnati Children's offered an exposure to cutting-edge science with opportunities to learn from internationally renowned scientists. Different multi-disciplinary collaborations available there allowed me to learn how science is done as a teamwork. The program encouraged me to understand the nature of academic medicine and think independently with a strong mentorship that can guide me into the right direction. In addition, there are numerous research training programs available at Cincinnati Children's, such as grant writing workshops, fellow grant opportunities and the translational research certification program. Overall, I believe the Pediatric Endocrine Fellowship allowed me to continue developing my career as a researcher and I am truly grateful for all the learnings and opportunities provided!

2018

Kristal Matlock, MD

Position after Fellowship: Assistant Professor, Medical University of South Carolina

I completed the Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s in 2018 and am now in my fifth year as an attending. As a resident, I knew I wanted to be an endocrinologist after volunteering at diabetes camp (Camp Korelitz)! Fellowship at Cincinnati Children's prepared me to care for patients with both rare and common endocrine disorders so I felt ready to practice independently. The service weeks are busy but rewarding in how much you learn. Even now when I need advice, I have been able to call on my mentors at Cincinnati Children's about my patients and my career.

I also felt extremely well-supported by my attendings and co-fellows in and outside the hospital. I made some of my best friends during this time and remain connected to co-fellows, NPs, and attendings to this day. The residency and fellowship program are also supportive of diversity and inclusion, which is very important to me. If I had to choose again, I would definitely pick Cincinnati Children's.
