What is Holter and Zio Monitoring in Children?
A Holter monitor records your child’s heart activity for 24 hours. It shows how fast the heart beats and how steady the rhythm is. Doctors use it to check for heart problems.
A Zio® monitor records heart activity for 3 to 14 days or longer. It also tracks heart rate and rhythm. It can find problems like:
- A fast heartbeat (tachycardia)
- A slow heartbeat (bradycardia)
- An uneven heartbeat
- Abnormal heart beats, often called ectopy
These problems may not happen all the time, so a quick test like an EKG may miss them.
By recording the heart over a longer time—during normal daily activities—these monitors make it easier to find problems.
