Cincinnati Children’s Names Andrew Trout, MD, Radiologist in Chief

Cincinnati Children’s has named Andrew Trout, MD, radiologist in chief, effective Oct. 20, 2025.

Dr. Trout will lead the Department of Radiology and also serve as an organizational leader as a member of the health system’s in-chiefs leadership group. He will help the organization continue its focus on providing the best outcomes for patients, providing leadership and partnership to achieve growth strategies.

Dr. Trout joined Cincinnati Children’s in 2014 and most recently served as associate chief of faculty development as well as director of clinical research in the Department of Radiology. In these roles, he has mentored junior and mid-career faculty to support their career growth and oversaw research operations in Radiology.

Dr. Trout was director of Nuclear Medicine at Cincinnati Children’s from 2016-24. In this role, he led one of the nation’s most clinically busy nuclear medicine sections, modernizing clinical protocols, selecting equipment and managing operations. He established operational processes for research across the department, led early phase clinical trials in nuclear medicine, received federal funding and led federally funded research.

Dr. Trout received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Carleton College and a medical degree from Mayo Medical School (2006), both of which are in Minnesota. He completed a residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Michigan in 2011, a fellowship in Pediatric Radiology at Cincinnati Children’s in 2012, and a fellowship in Nuclear Radiology at the University of Cincinnati in 2013. He holds certifications from the American Board of Radiology in diagnostic radiology (2011), nuclear radiology (2013) and pediatric radiology (2014).
