Bivalent Vaccine Now Available

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued emergency use authorizations for COVID-19 bivalent vaccines, which are effective against both the original strain of COVID-19 and the Omicron subvariant.

  • Children ages 6 months through 4 years who are currently completing a Pfizer primary series will receive a Pfizer COVID-19 bivalent vaccine for their third dose of the primary series. Children in this age group who completed their 3-dose monovalent Pfizer COVID-19 primary series are not eligible for the bivalent vaccine at this time.
  • Children ages 6 months through 5 years who previously completed a Moderna primary series are eligible to receive a Moderna bivalent booster two months after their final primary series dose. (Please note that Cincinnati Children’s does not currently administer the Moderna vaccine.)

If you have questions about when to get your vaccine or booster, read about vaccine eligibility from the CDC or reach out to your primary care provider.

Get Your COVID and Flu Vaccines at the Same Visit

Simultaneous administration of age-appropriate vaccines is recommended by the CDC, so patients 6 months and older can get their flu vaccine at the same time they get their COVID vaccine. Call your primary care provider's office to schedule them together.
