Understanding Social Drivers of Health

The Williford lab focuses on health equity in diabetes self-management for youth and families. We have a particular passion for understanding social drivers of health and co-designing strengths-based behavioral interventions with young people living with diabetes and their support systems. Our lab emphasizes community engagement as a method of understanding, developing and improving behavioral interventions and their impacts on physical and psychosocial health and well-being.

Team Culture and How We Treat One Another

  • We aim to create an inclusive, nurturing environment where every person feels valued, supported and treated with kindness.
  • We honor and respect the unique role each team member plays in our shared success.
  • We collaborate openly, communicate clearly and help one another grow.

How We Engage With Patients, Families and Participants

  • We approach conversations with respect, curiosity and compassion, building meaningful connections with the people we serve.
  • We aim to engage thoughtfully and wholeheartedly, recognizing the dignity and experience each individual brings.
