Who May Need a Living Allogenic Valve Replacement?
Living allogenic valve replacement may be an option for patients with severe valvar disease who may need a new heart valve. These patients may include babies, children and adolescents with:
- Aortic (valve) stenosis or regurgitation
- Biventricular outflow tract obstruction
- Tetralogy of Fallot or double outlet right ventricle with pulmonary atresia
- Truncus arteriosus with a poorly functioning truncal valve
- Need of or replacement of right ventricle to pulmonary artery conduit
- Atrioventricular valve stenosis or regurgitation (especially mitral valve)
Living allogenic valve replacement may also be an option for patients who:
- Aren’t good candidates for the Ross procedure (aortic valve replacement)
- Have developed neo-aortic stenosis after a Ross procedure
