  • Pathologist, Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
  • Assistant Professor, UC Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
My philosophy is to manage each pathology case the same way I would want it done for my own family.

My clinical specialty is pediatric and perinatal pathology, focusing on pediatric solid tumors, transplant pathology, autopsy, medical renal disease and primary ciliary dyskinesia. Pathologists are the members of the patient's team who look at biopsy and resection material and determine the diagnosis. This information is then relayed to the clinical team, which determines the best next steps in care. Even though we work behind the scenes, we strive to provide the best care possible for each unique case.

I have always been curious about how the body works on a microscopic level and how illness and injury affect our cells. I knew early on that I wanted a career where I could explore this curiosity and use what I learned to help others, so I naturally found myself drawn to medicine.

In medical school, I quickly learned that I enjoyed pathology's diagnostic challenges and found it an exciting and engaging specialty. When it came time to specialize further, I developed an interest in pediatric pathology because it focuses on a unique population and offers an opportunity to have a significant impact on the lives of others.

My philosophy is to manage each pathology case the same way I would want it done for my own family. Pathology is undoubtedly a "behind the scenes" specialty. Still, I remember that my slides came from a patient needing my help and that there is a person on the other side of each case waiting for an answer.

My research interests focus on the pathology of renal transplant rejection, diagnostic modalities for primary ciliary dyskinesia, and the biology and pathophysiology of pediatric solid tumors. My other interest beyond the practice of pathology is medical education and medical trainee wellness.

I enjoy being outdoors and with nature, and my favorite hobbies are biking and hiking. I also love animals and have two cats and two freshwater aquariums.
