Abhishek Chakraborty, MD

I specialize in pediatric cardiology and pediatric cardiac critical care, caring for infants, children and adolescents with congenital and acquired heart disease. My clinical interests include complex congenital heart disease, single ventricle physiology, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, mechanical circulatory support, ECMO, and postoperative cardiac intensive care. My journey into pediatrics began with a desire to care for children and build lasting relationships with families. During my residency, I was drawn to pediatric cardiology by the fascinating combination of physiology, innovation and teamwork that defines this field. As I continued my training, I realized that caring for children with complex heart disease goes far beyond medical treatment. It requires clear communication, trust and a true partnership with families during some of their most challenging moments.  
 
I believe the best care always begins with listening. Every child and family has a unique story, and every medical decision should reflect their goals and values. Whether I am explaining a new diagnosis, caring for a critically ill child after heart surgery, or helping families navigate long-term congenital heart disease, I strive to provide care with empathy, honesty, and respect. My goal is to help families understand complex medical conditions so they can feel confident and empowered throughout their child’s care.  
 
My research focuses on improving outcomes for children with congenital heart disease through clinical research, quality improvement, and innovation. I have led and collaborated on studies investigating biomarkers of lung injury, neuroprotection, acute kidney injury, ECMO, mechanical circulatory support, and clinical outcomes related to large databases and standardized clinical care pathways. I am passionate about translating research into practical improvements that make care safer, more effective, and more consistent for children with heart disease.  
 
Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with my wife and young son, hiking, reading contemporary literature, and following cricket. Parenthood has given me an even greater appreciation for the trust families place in their physicians, and it continues to shape the way I care for every child and family I have the privilege to serve.
