As a perfusionist, I assist surgical teams during cardiac, pulmonary and other various surgeries that require cardiopulmonary bypass, mechanical circulatory support, autotransfusion or hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy.
There are many more questions than answers in the field of perfusion. That’s why I’ve devoted my career to the development of evidence-based solutions that reduce variation in this practice. I am particularly interested in understanding the technical and scientific aspects of pediatric cardiopulmonary bypass. I’m also focused on developing the PediPERForm Learning Network to improve quality in pediatric and congenital perfusion.
For my work in the mission field, I was recognized in 2012 with the American Society of Extracorporeal Technology (AmSECT) Excellence in Perfusion Award.
I feel privileged to work with children, never losing sight of the attention to detail necessary to care for the youngest and smallest patients impacted by cardiovascular disease.
