I’m a pediatric neurology resident. Although I have specific interests in epilepsy and neurodevelopmental disorders, I enjoy treating all of the various disorders that we encounter in pediatric neurology. I also love to educate families on specific disorders and explain why we treat them as we do. It's helpful for families to know the why behind various treatments rather than just following advice.
My path to pediatrics began before high school when I worked as a swim coach. Working with children has always brought me so much joy, so I spent my life serving them and trying to help them live their best lives. My interest in neurology started after my aunt was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma. Helping her throughout her diagnosis and treatments showed me the importance and intricacy of the nervous system and the difficulty patients face when diagnosed with neurological diseases. I discovered pediatric neurology during my medical school training. I fell in love with the patient population and the opportunity to help children with neurological diseases live the best quality of life possible.
My care philosophy is focused on improving the quality of life for all children, including those with neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders. I look at all aspects of patient care to figure out ways to improve treatments for our patients and how we can better the lives of the patients’ families. It can be challenging for families when there are diet changes, multiple medications, lots of specialists and several therapy appointments each week. I also consider the impact any changes may have on the patient and family and develop solutions that benefit the entire family.
Though I am currently not involved in research, I am interested in the study of epilepsy, neurodevelopmental disorders and autism spectrum disorder. Any research I pursue will be focused on improving the care and the quality of life of children with these disorders.
I love spending my free time with my husband and dog, grabbing a cup of coffee at a new coffee shop and then exploring one of the parks around Cincinnati. We are also big football fans and watch football every weekend in the fall. Our favorites teams are the Clemson Tigers and the Seattle Seahawks. Any additional free time I have typically goes toward reading and baking.
