Fellowship Alumni
Since 2009, the Center for Simulation and Research has offered an informal training experience for subspecialty fellows in the divisions of critical care, emergency medicine and neonatology. This grew out of a combined interest from the individual fellows and the educators and directors at the CSR. Additionally, one practicing pediatric emergency medicine physician from Brazil spent one year with us on a Proctor Scholarship to further develop his expertise in medical simulation, including the development, completion and publication of a research project. In 2018, we started a formal fellowship through our GME department. Then in 2021, we became an accredited fellowship through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
Taylor Carrel-Lammert, MD
Our 2026-2027 simulation fellow is Taylor Carrel-Lammert, MD, who is a staff physician within Emergency Medicine at Cincinnati Children’s. He is planning on pursuing a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine after this training year. His project is currently in development.
Megan Wright, MD
Our 2025-2026 simulation fellow was Megan Wright, MD, who is an Emergency Medicine physician at both the University of Cincinnati and at Cincinnati Children’s. Megan’s project focused on adult readiness with the pediatric emergency departments at our Burnet and Liberty campuses.
Joanne Somerville, RN
In 2022-2023, instead of a formal fellowship we hosted Joanne Somerville, RN for a sabbatical. Joanne is a pediatric intensive care nurses clinically but spends most of her time as a Medical Educator and simulation director in Perth, Western Australia. Her area of interest during the sabbatical with us was scenario-based virtual reality simulation.
Preston Dean, MD
Our 2021-2022 simulation fellow was Preston Dean, MD, who is an Emergency Medicine physician here at Cincinnati Children's. Preston developed a rapid cycle deliberate practice course for EM fellows during his fellowship, which has now been expanded to faculty in the division.
Ryan Fredericks, MD
Our 2020-2021 simulation fellow was Ryan Fredericks, MD, who is a pediatric Critical Care Medicine attending at the Colorado Children’s in Denver, CO. During fellowship, he developed a simulation-based program to enhance the rapid response team process at Kentucky Children’s Hospital.
Victoria Hartwell, MD
Our 2019-2020 simulation fellow was Victoria Hartwell, MD, who is an Emergency Medicine physician here at Cincinnati Children's and is our fellowship’s program director. During fellowship, she developed and studied a virtual reality-based platform to train physicians and advanced practice providers on digital block anesthesia.
Sang Lee, MD
Our 2018-2019 simulation fellow was Sang Lee, MD, who currently is an Emergency Medicine physician here at Cincinnati Children's and has 10% FTE as our Physician Lead – Resident Simulation. He has now completed two grants, with accompanying publications, focused on procedural training for prehospital emergency providers. He is also a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator.
