What Are Febrile Seizures?
Febrile seizures are a type of seizure that can affect young children when they have a fever. Febrile seizures can occur in children between 6 months and 5 years old, but they most often affect children between 12 months and 18 months old.
During a febrile seizure, a child may lose consciousness, shake or twitch their arms and legs, or roll their eyes. Although these symptoms can be scary, febrile seizures are usually harmless and do not lead to epilepsy or other long-term health problems.
