Frequently Asked Questions

This virtual urgent care from Cincinnati Children’s provides parents and families with 24/7 real-time access to a pediatric provider through interactive video visits via a mobile app or web browser. It’s a great option for those times when your doctor isn’t available, and you need a quick answer.

Video visits allow you to see and speak with a pediatric expert and have a limited physical exam—right on your smartphone or computer. Our pediatric experts can answer your questions, provide advice to help you move forward, review your child’s condition, or if needed, refer you to in-person care or send a prescription to your pharmacy if medically necessary.

Both you and your child must be present during the video visit; however, the level of child involvement is at the discretion of the provider. In all cases, the provider will speak directly with the parent or guardian.

Virtual urgent care visits cost $46, and you pay at the time of service with a credit or debit card. This can include your HSA or FSA card so long as the card has a Visa or Mastercard logo. If our provider determines that you need immediate in-person care, you will not be charged for your virtual visit.

If our provider recommends lab work and sends a referral to a lab at Cincinnati Children’s or another lab, your insurance will be billed just like lab work requested during an in-person visit.

CincyKids Health Connect can see anyone under the age of 18 who is in Ohio, Kentucky or Indiana at the time of service.

Our 24/7 virtual urgent care can evaluate minor illnesses and injuries with symptoms such as: bites (animal, human, insect), cough, congestion, runny nose, eye infections, arm or leg pain after an injury, fever (kids ages 2+), flu-like symptoms, head injury without loss of consciousness, rashes and skin infections, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation.

We do NOT evaluate serious or life-threatening conditions, or conditions needing an in-person evaluation, including: abdominal pain, chronic headaches, ear infections, injuries involving the neck or back, loss of consciousness, migraines, obviously broken bones, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing and uncontrolled bleeding. For these types of conditions, you need an in-person evaluation at our emergency room or urgent care location.

CincyKids Health Connect video visits are private and secure. Your information is protected and only shared with your designated primary care physician and pharmacy, just like an in-person visit. Patient safety is an important concern. Be sure that when you do the video visit that you are in a private and secure location—and not driving.

Yes, if medically appropriate. Our pediatric experts can send a prescription to your pharmacy. This may include an antibiotic, but only if it’s medically necessary to treat a condition that can be diagnosed during a video visit. A consultation is not a guarantee of a prescription.

Yes, if a school or work excuse is medically necessary.

We are working toward accepting more insurance and reimbursements. You can pay for a CincyKids Health Connect video visit with your HSA or FSA card so long as the card has a Visa or Mastercard logo.

If our provider recommends lab work and sends a referral to a lab at Cincinnati Children’s or another lab, your insurance will be billed just like lab work requested during an in-person visit.

Yes, we make this easy. You can look up your physician by last name or practice name when you register your account or at the time of your visit.

If our provider determines that you need immediate in-person care, you will not be charged for your virtual urgent care visit.

You will be notified when the provider is ready to see you. The visit request is cancelled if you miss two attempts from the provider, and you will need to make a new request.

To use this service, you will need a device with a web camera and video capability. A mobile app is available for both iOS and Android platforms. If you’re using a mobile device, we recommend that you connect to WiFi. If you’re using a web browser, we recommend that you use Chrome.
