Responding To The Unimaginable

Friday, May 27, 2022

On Tuesday, May 25, when the Cincinnati Children’s family was gathering to reflect upon two recent horrific events, another senseless act of violence was taking place in Texas – this time at an elementary school. At least 19 children and 2 adults were murdered, and we know that the trauma of this incident will impact the health and wellbeing of the children and adults who survived.

For our teams, this hurt pierces deeply, as we come to work each day to care for children, to heal them, comfort them and help them reach their individual potential. These children will never get that chance; it was taken from them. And, we know this type of violence happens all too often.

There are more questions than answers. There is more hurt than healing. For years we have been involved in research and advocacy efforts to help prevent these types of events from occurring; but we know it is not enough.

This week, we committed to amplifying this effort and are taking steps to do so. For now, please take care of one another. It will take all of us working and advocating together to help put an end to these horrific events.
