Singing Helps Sickle Cell Patient Cope with Blood Draws
Nurses at Cincinnati Children's know something that helps LeCarol Batson get through each of her blood draws. LeCarol, who is 11 and has sickle cell disease, loves to sing her way past the pain. Each summer she attends a camp for patients who have cancer or blood diseases, and each time she comes back to the hospital, she brings songs she's learned. "We bring camp to the hospital," says Karen Martin, her child life specialist.
