Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) training is for professionals who provide mental health services.  It is an evidence-based treatment developed and tested by Drs. Judith Cohen, Esther Deblinger and Anthony Mannarino to help children and their caregivers overcome the negative effects of childhood traumatic stress.

TF-CBT teaches children and their caregivers skills in stress management, cognitive processing, communication, trauma processing and safety. It is important that the child’s primary caregiver(s) participate in the treatment to enhance parenting skills and manage caregivers’ own reactions to the child’s traumatic stress.

  • No sessions are currently on the calendar.

This two-day training provides mental health and related professionals with a comprehensive understanding of TF-CBT as well as hands-on opportunities to practice each of the TF-CBT components.

Graduates of the two-day training and follow-up consultation are eligible to apply for national certification as TF-CBT providers.

The TF-CBT PRACTICE components include:

  • Psychoeducation
  • Parenting Skills
  • Relaxation

  • Cognitive Coping — The Cognitive Triangle
  • Trauma Narrative and Cognitive Processing the Traumatic Experience
  • In Vivo Mastery of Trauma Reminders
